If you have a balcony, you usually don't use it because it's just too small. Even small balconies can be comfortably set up. You just need a few space-saving ideas.

It is best to use folding furniture

If you live in a rented apartment and do not have a garden, a balcony is a small but nice replacement for it. Unfortunately, most balconies are often so small that it is very difficult to relax and enjoy the fresh air. A large balcony on which even the little ones can play is something completely different. But sometimes you just have to be satisfied with what you have.

But who says that a small balcony cannot be cozy? You just may not deliver it with all things. Saving space is the motto. So you can create a green oasis even in just a few square meters. So you just need a little creativity. Here are a few ideas on how you can set up a balcony beautifully and at the same time save space.

How to set up your balcony to save space

❖ Tip 1 - Use folding furniture or furniture with storage space:

If you want to do more than just sit on your balcony, but also hang up your laundry, for example, it is best to sit on a folding table and folding chairs. You can then clear the furniture aside and use the space for the clothes horse.

If you only use the balcony to relax and do not want to constantly have to clear away something, then it is best to choose storage boxes as seating. Simply put pillows or a pad on top and you will kill two birds with one stone. You have created seating furniture and lots of storage space. Of course, the box must also be weatherproof. So pay attention to the material when buying. Poly rattan is e.g. the best choice because it is hard-wearing, UV-resistant and weatherproof and also has a timeless design. Other materials such as wood and metal, plastic or aluminum, however, have some disadvantages (source: www.hoftechnik.com).

❖ Tip 2 - Don't put flowers on the floor:

If you have little space on the balcony anyway, don't cover the floor with flowers. On a small balcony, these are just obstacles or stumbling blocks. Instead, plant the flowers in flower boxes or put them on hanging baskets. You can also create a vertical garden. For example, with the help of a Euro pallet (instructions on www.ndr.de). You can also simply place flower pots on shelves or hang them on hooks or other hanging devices. Plants can also grow up on trellises.

❖ Tip 3 - Use sun sails instead of parasols:

You can also get a good sunburn on a balcony. But putting up a parasol on a small balcony is not exactly space-saving. Instead, you should prefer sun sails that are attached to the wall and railing. So you don't take up any space directly on the balcony.

❖ Tip 4 - Use the balcony grill:

If you want to grill on your balcony, don't put a real grill there. That would be far too dangerous on a small balcony. Instead, opt for a so-called balcony grill (see www.amazon.de). It is a charcoal grill with ash drawer and height adjustment, which has a holder for the balcony railing. So perfect for those who have little space on the balcony. Incidentally, the scope of delivery also includes a cover so that it does not weather.

Important:
If you want to grill on your balcony, you have to follow a few rules and regulations. You can find out more about it here.

❖ Tip 5 - provide enough light:

Only a few balconies have a power connection. But if you still want to sit on the balcony in the evening, you need light. E.g. very space-saving Solar skewers for flower boxes or garlands. They don't take up space and still provide enough light. So you will surely enjoy the nice atmosphere on the balcony for a little longer.

❖ Tip 6 - keep order:

If the balcony is quite small, one thing is very important: order. So don't put the drinks crates or the garbage on the balcony. Not only does it look ugly, it also takes up too much space. So rather stow boxes inside and bring the garbage down straight away.
